Managing News

Newsmessages are managed inside a seperate part of the system, which can be entered by clicking the button "News", which is located inside the upper bar. On the left side you will see an overview of the so called "newsfeeds". Inside the main window, you manage the messages.

Newsfeeds
Inside Footsteps "news messages" ("messages" for short) are located inside a "news feed" ("feed" for short). So a feed is a collection of messages, mostly on the same topic. If you wish to show news on your website, you can do this by selecting one or more feeds. The messages inside these feeds will be shown on your site. You have to select a so called "feed opener" for every feed. From the tree view of your website shown, you will have to select a news page. Inside this news page your feed messages will be shown. Be aware that the news page is configured in a way to show the messages correctly. Finally, a feed also manages the authorization for its messages.

After selecting a feed, it will be shown inside the main window. Inside the main window you can see the messages of the feed. Now, you can add messages to the feed, edit existing messages, or delete messages.

Newsmessages
If you add or edit a message, you are able to adjust several of its properties. Some you can lay out, as you are used to from normal webpages. For this purpose, you can use the button bar of the editor.

Title: At the top, on the same location as the title in case of webpages, you will see the title of the message.

Time/Date: Below the editor's button bar, you can enter the time and date which apply to the message.

Highlighted: Below time an date you can select if a message must be "hightlighted". Highlighted messages will be shown in a way that draws more attention than normal messages. Depending on its properties, a highlighted message will be shown "above" normal messages.

Image: You can use the square, next to the "Extended title", to link an image to the message. This image is located inside Image Management. After leftclicking the square, you can select an existing image or add one. To remove the link to the image, you can rightclick the image and use the contextmenu.

Description: Inside this text box, you can enter a brief summary of the message. This summary will be used as a description linking to the message. Depending on the lay out of your website, it will also be displayed in the enumeration of newsmessages.

Header: Inside this text box, you can enter an introduction of your message. It is similar to the bold headers inside reallife newspapers and magazines. Inside this text box, you can use your own mark up.

Body: Inside this text box, you can enter the content of your message. Also inside this text box, you can use your own mark up.

Just like webpages, you also have to publish newsmessages before they are shown on your website. Also, you can assign keywords to messages. Finally, to preserve your changes you also have to save them. You can find the buttons for these purposes, on the same location as in case of webpages.
